Stalwart traditional Japanese Izakaya serving up high quality Sushi, Sashimi, Nigiri and Japanese Izakaya fare. Service is always on point. Not fussy but friendly and efficient. The restaurant is not fancy inside but has a lovely patio and really reminds me of being in Tokyo. Watch the specials menu which has a rotating selection of offerings. On my last visit I had the Sashimi Omakase and it was spectacular. A generous selection of upgraded sushi options like fatty tuna, sea bream, salmon and more. The location is off the beaten path for Waikiki and feels like a hidden gem even though it's been around for a while. Highly recommended.

Truly authentic place! You can try some traditional Japanese rolls: Kanpyo roll - yummy! A bit sweet, but nice. Plum roll - there was too much cucumber, so I didn't feel plum much. Natto - it was an experiment for us. Unusual taste, but it was nice to give it a try! Avocado+salmon roll - solid. 3 types of sashimi: yellowtail was gorgeous. It melts in your mouth (didn't know fish can do that). Salmon had a bit too fishy taste. Tuna was good

Chiba-Ken is a local casual favorite for Japanese comfort food - we came here for a later dinner, and we were seated promptly. We ordered: +a Beef Short Rib with Garlic Sauce skewer +a Yakitori Chicken with Garlic Sauce skewer +a Shrimp & Vegetable Tempura +a Salmon Avocado Roll The skewers were just okay, as I thought they could have been more seasoned and more savory. The tempura, on the other hand, were delicious, as the batter was light and super crispy - a generous portion as well as a good variety for a shareable app! The roll was simple and fresh. They also have a patio for patrons to take advantage of for al fresco dining; even when we left, there were streams of parties coming in. Chiba-Ken also offers a late night HH, which offers some great deals. The staff here are super kind and friendly, and very attentive. Cute and clean little spot to get your cravings fixed! +Shrimp & Vegetable Tempura +patio dining available +friendly service

This is a hidden gem, the service and sushi was excellent. We ordered rolls hot sake and Japanese beer and we had so much fun. We sat outside in a light covered patio people watching and feasted on mostly tuna and yellowtail rolls, especially liked the rainbow roll, it was outstanding they added an octopus section that i had never seen before and it was so good..

I honestly don't know why I didn't review this place when we originally went two years ago based on the recommendation of local brewers. We returned last Tuesday after flying out from California to elope. We landed late in the morning, went and bought our rings and matching shirts to get married in, and then ended our night at the best late night happy hour on the island! We went because we remember it being incredible two years ago, but I do not remember being as good as it was this time! Every item that we ordered was just beyond amazing, and the service is impeccable! Definitely small, but cozy would be a better description! Nice outside patio as well. Definitely try the spam musubi!

Chiba-Ken kind of has a "hole in the wall" vibe, understated and good food! Sitting on the edge of Waikiki, this little restaurant has been around for awhile. It's away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki and offers a wide array of authentic Japanese dishes. The Tonkatsu and the Pork Belly Yakitori were on point and dishes I would recommend. Service was exceptional, super friendly to my twin boys, and attentive. Overall, a great no frills Japanese restaurant!

A small and intimate restaurant with authentic Japanese food. We weren't too hungry and ordered a couple of rolls and beer. It hit the spot. The staff was very friendly. It's also a short walk from the hotels on west end Waikiki. They offer a late night happy hour that offers discounts on many items!

We went there when they just opened at 5:30 on a weekday, so it was empty and even when we left, it was pretty much the same. Because of that, we had all the attentions of staff and the service was very fast. All of the food was good, except for a few things - 1) an egg in the Pork Belly Kakuni was cold, 2) the Deep Fried Tofu could've been fried a bit more until it was light brown, 3) Beef Short Ribs could've been cooked longer until the some fat gets melted off. Nevertheless, the quality of their food is pretty high and they have been consistent, which I find it very important and appreciated.

Delicious food and phenomenal speedy service. This was the best fried tofu and the most fresh sushi I've ever had! And as a student, I appreciate how affordable it is in Waikiki
